Q&A with Steve Knight
Owner of Yoga One

April, 07

Q: What made you decide to open Yoga One?

A:
I wanted to introduce yoga to as many people as possible. To me, yoga is the complete package: it heals and strengthens the body. It’s challenging and fun. It’s as deep and difficult as you want it to be. It expands and calms the mind. It talks to my spirit. I love sharing this!

Q: Tell us about your weekly exercise regimen.

A:
Ideally I practice four to six times a week. I lift weights twice a week. And play tennis three times a week.

Q: Do you use a personal trainer/yogi?  Why?

A
: No. I never had a trainer for the 22 years I lifted weights. I have a personal yoga practice (I practice the sequence on my own) twice a week before I teach. I do attend training sessions four times a year with my teacher, Baron Baptiste. That said, I also love the vibe of yoga class environment: the energy of the students practicing together pushes me physically.

Q: What is your diet like?

A:
My diet is not great! But I feel like I do things in moderation. I eat five small meals a day. I never eat late. I’m not a purist, but conscious of my choices and when I eat.

Q: What do you use as motivation to keep yourself fit?

A:
In the early years I did it because I was self- conscious about how I looked. And it was about endorphin release. I’m a physical guy and I love using my body. But now it’s about mind, body and spirit. Yoga connects the dots: it makes me feel complete.

Q: What are your fitness goals for the future?

A: Yoga has become and will continue to be my number one discipline, complimented by a variety of other physical activities that I have cultivated interest in over the years. I just want to keep exploring the unlimited possibilities of yoga. I want to find a balance between the mind and the body.
