What a Girl Wants

Meredith Fagan set a fairly lofty goal.

“I wanted to create an experience that is exciting for the athletic woman, fun and productive for the average woman, and encouraging and supportive for the woman who has never exercised,” she explains.

And that goal manifested one year ago when the doors of North Carolina’s only up-scale fitness center for women, Carolina Woman (www.carolinawomanfitness.com), opened in the Lake Norman area.

At Carolina Woman, we work with women who are real life adults who have kids, family issues, and who often just don’t feel good about the shape they are in but don’t know where to turn for help,” says owner and General Manager Meredith Fagan. “Our club was designed for people who want to work out in an adult environment but need help getting started and staying motivated.”

Carolina Woman’s philosophy is simple. Fitness is not just about what happens within their walls. If you are going to get the results that have alluded you in other places and on other attempts, then you not only need the programming and support while inside the facility, but also the support, information and confidence to continue your fitness journey beyond their walls.

So what does this entail? For starters, Carolina Woman offers group fitness classes that go “beyond local instructors designing their own classes” and are instead based on Body Training Systems (BTS), an internationally recognized licensing and certification program. They also adopted Weight Management System as the “company of choice” by which to structure a weight management approach, including nutritional products designed for women only and full on-line support so you can stay motivated and accountable through your home computer.

Carolina Woman also offers a few special “amenities” including a nationally known juice bar, childcare, tanning and, in the near future, a full on-site day spa.

Meredith cites her mother as a great inspiration and in strengthening her belief that women deserve to have an upscale atmosphere that is clean, safe and non-threatening.

“Her personal fitness struggle encompassed the frustration that so many women share,” she explains. “That mainstream fitness centers just don’t ‘get’ women and their special needs and fitness requirements. We are the first women’s only fitness center in the state that combines fitness with all the amenities that make it both fun and interesting. ”

And Carolina Woman must be doing something right. January 2006 marks their first anniversary and a celebration of a whole new approach to women’s fitness. Meredith invites you to consider making Carolina Woman part of your day…a place with no spouse, no kids, no boss, and no phones…just you.

Congratulations Meredith Fagan and Carolina Woman on a successful first year!
