Not your Average Store…Destination Maternity

Destination Maternity…it’s like no other maternity resource. It combines all maternity brands into one location and is the first maternity resource in Charlotte with a spa for pregnant women. From clothing to skin care, facials to pregnancy massage, Destination Maternity is more than a store – it’s a total experience for pregnant women.

“When we opened our flagship store, ‘Women’s Wear Daily’ called it a theme park for pregnant women,” said founder Rebecca Matthias. Matthias realized when she was pregnant that expectant moms faced a dilemma of not having many choices in clothing. She began to design fashionable clothes for pregnant women, now the world's largest maternity fashion retailer. Matthias now dresses 2.7 million mothers-to-be annually.

With three brands of maternity clothes, Destination Maternity offers every classification of maternity clothes. But clothing only begins to scratch the surface of this unique store.

The store has different price points on clothing, maternity spa, juice bar and play area for second-time moms so they can shop while their other kids play. There is a leather seated area for dads and other people who might be accompanying expectant moms on their shopping experience because as Matthias says, maternity shopping has become a family experience.

“Maternity shopping is so much more than shopping for clothes,” she says. “It’s a turning point in families’ lives, which everyone wants to be a part of.”

Destination Maternity also carries a large selection of maternity gifts, has a baby shower area and vast selection of new baby sets to help make baby’s trip home from the hospital extra special. Destination Maternity carries a selection of nursing clothes and features maternity clothes including designer brand “A Pea in the Pod”, the Bloomingdales-esque contemporary Mimi Maternity line and Motherhood Maternity which calls out to moms looking for everyday low prices, fashion and assortment. And since Destination Maternity offers reasonable prices, including 100% cotton clothing popular with expectant mothers, Matthias says they can practically “scoop up a whole armload” to take home.

Located in the South Park area, Destination Maternity doubles as a learning studio, with classes for maternity yoga.

“Fitness is so important and in my “51 Secrets of Motherhood I’ve dedicated a whole part to maternity fitness,” said Matthias. “If you want a healthy baby, you have to be healthy and that includes spiritual well being and taking care of your whole body.”

The Destination Maternity spa also offers maternity massage but Matthias says pregnant women should talk with their medical doctors to determine what’s best for mom and baby during pregnancy.

“Do what’s comfortable, but if you can, put on your Reeboks and walk – walking is key.”

Not your average single brand store, Destination Maternity is a destination for pregnant women that truly understands the special needs of pregnant women.
