Extreme Ice Center

We often associate winter sports and anything associated with the cold, with the exception of ice cream and popsicles, with the northeast corridor or the Midwest.  Fortunately, for those of use who have migrated from chillier parts of the country, there is an option to experience those “winter sports” year round coupled with family fun and friendly competition.

Extreme Ice Center, nestled in Indian Trail, covers an enormous amountof entertainment space.  Less than six months old, Extreme Ice Center has made some significant progress in establishing itself as one of the few venues of its kind in the area. Most notable, Extreme Ice is the official practice rink for The Charlotte Checkers, Charlotte’s ECHL hockey team.

The brain child of Tom and Debbie Logano and Mike and Maureen Mulhall, it’s easy to see that this is a very family friendly environment.  One of the best kept secrets in North Carolina, the facility houses a professional ice rink, a practice rink, a small rink for kids, ice bumper cars for parties, a pro shop and a tavern is under construction.

Of course no sports facility would be complete with out some friendly competition.  Extreme Ice Center offers in-house youth leagues, a traveling youth hockey league that travels all over the country and a multi-level adult league.  Additionally, Carolinas Figure Skating Club frequents the facility. At the moment, there are no immediate plans for expansion but plans could change once the initial facility is running at full capacity.

For the less competitive types that want to enjoy the shear fun of the facility there is public skating once a day as well as a D.J. from Friday through Sunday afternoon with longer skating sessions on the weekends.  Ice Shows, skating programs for children and adults at various levels, advanced skating instruction, a fitness center, a lounge equipped with wireless internet access, a co-ed recreational broom ball league for adults, speed skating, youth groups meetings as well as meeting areas for private groups and companies that host meetings and workshops.

You can clearly see that Extreme Ice Center has an extensive array of activities for the entire family.  From the serious competitive athlete to the child or adult that wants to learn how to ice skate or the competitive teenager on a quest for the upper echelon of ice skating, Extreme Ice Center has it all.
